What to put on an estimate

  • Your business name and how to reach you
  • The client's name and address
  • A unique number and the date
  • Each item or service on its own line, with quantity and price
  • Tax, if you charge it, shown as its own line
  • The total, any deposit received, and the balance due
  • When payment is due and how to pay

How to use this template

  1. Enter your business details once. This browser remembers them for next time.
  2. Add the client, the date and the job details.
  3. List each item on its own line. Tick “Taxed” for the lines you charge tax on, and enter your tax rate.
  4. Choose “Download PDF or print”, then “Save as PDF” in the print window.
  5. For the next job, choose “New estimate”. It keeps your business details and moves to the next number.

Tips

  • Number every document in order and never reuse a number. It makes your records easy to follow.
  • Send the invoice the day you finish the job, while the work is fresh in the client's mind.
  • Say plainly when payment is due: a date is clearer than “net 30”.
